Add an Abandoned Checkout Link to Flow Messages

Send customers a direct link to their checkout page.

Written by Roohul Shah

TxtCart makes it effortless for stores to include a checkout link in their flows, streamlining the path to purchase for your customers.

Stores can embed abandoned checkout links in flows triggered by the "Checkout Started" flow trigger.

When a customer abandons their checkout page, this trigger automatically sends them a text where you can embed a direct link to their abandoned cart to make it easier for them to go back to their cart and complete their purchase.

How Does it Work?

When a customer reaches checkout but doesn't complete their purchase, you can send them a text with a link that brings them right back to the checkout page—with all their info already filled in.

How to Add an Abandoned Checkout Link to Your Flow Message

Step 1: Go to your Flow Builder in TxtCart.

Step 2: Click the Send Message node, and write your message where you want the checkout link to appear.

Step 3: Click the Link Icon in the message editor.

Step 4: From the Link Type dropdown, select Abandoned Checkout.

Step 5: (Optional) Enter a Discount code. If you add a code here, that same discount is applied automatically when the shopper reaches their checkout. To make a new code, click Create new.

Step 6: Under UTM tracking, keep or clear the tracking parameters. Add utm_source=txtCart and Add utm_medium=sms are turned on by default so you can attribute clicks in your analytics. Click + Add parameter to include your own.

Step 5: Save your message.
Step 6: Click Turn On in the top right corner to activate the flow.

Step 7: In the new popup window, select "End the previous flow for all, including those currently en route", then click Turn On Flow.

That's it! TxtCart will automatically add the checkout link when the message is sent to your customer.

Important Note: If you send yourself a Test Message, the abandoned cart link might contain placeholder text. Don't worry, this is normal!

Test messages aren't triggered by real checkout activity, so there's no actual checkout to link to. When a real customer abandons checkout, they'll receive a working link that takes them straight back to complete their purchase.

FAQs

1. What happens when TxtCart doesn't have existing shipping information?

  • For first-time customers or when shipping data isn't available, the shipping section remains empty. Customers will still land on their checkout page with their selected products and variants loaded; they'll just need to input their shipping details.

2. Does clicking a checkout link add items to an existing cart?

  • No. The checkout link generates a fresh cart containing only the product from your flow message. For multi-item flows, only the first item added to the original cart will be included in the message link.
