How do I set up my checkout for SMS?

Updated Instructions for compliant SMS messages

Optimized Checkout Settings

Required changes to your checkout to ensure that you are compliant, and we can text customers once they have successfully opted in.


Step 1:

Go to your Checkout Settings in the Shopify Admin Settings:

Step 2:

In the Customer Contact section, select "Email"

Note: This will separate the email and phone fields at checkout.

Step 3:

Scroll down to the Form options and change the Shipping Address Phone number to Optional.

Step 4:

Ensure SMS is set to Checkout Only under Marketing Opt in.

Add "Text me exclusive promotions, offers and deals" to the textbox.

Step 5:

Click Save

Step 6:

Scroll to Manage Checkout Language and click "Edit checkout content"

Step 7:

In the filter bar, type in "Phone"

For Phone Label and Optional Phone Label, copy and paste this text to your settings:

Step 8:

Lastly, search for "By signing up" in the filter bar, and enter the text below:

By checking the checkbox above, you agree to receive recurring automated messages from [INSERT STORE NAME HERE], including cart reminders, at the phone number provided. Consent is not a condition of purchase. Reply STOP to unsubscribe. Reply HELP for help. Message frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. View our {{ privacy_policy_link }} and {{ terms_of_service_link }}.

Once you have completed this, scroll to the top and press the Save button in the upper-right corner of your screen. Congrats! You've completed your checkout and compliance configuration!
