While brands selling alcoholic beverages are technically considered S.H.A.F.T. (Sex, Hate, Alcohol, Firearms, and Tobacco), brands that fulfill the requirements outlined in this article can still acquire a Toll-Free Number and promote their products.

Initial Requirements

Alcohol brands that meet all of the following conditions are eligible for promotional SMS Messaging:

  • Located in the US and sending to US recipients only.

  • Have a robust age verification system (store visitors must enter their date of birth in MM/DD/YYYY format).

  • Have SMS Double Opt-In enabled

  • Age verification must occur before the customer opts in for SMS.

Having a basic "Are you 21 or older?" with a Yes/No answer is considered insufficient and will most likely lead to a rejection.

In order to establish proper age gating, your age gate must ask for the customer's full date of birth in MM/DD/YYYY format before they can opt in for SMS marketing.
